for healthy backyard laying hens and nutritious eggs

Specialty, low-lectin feed for backyard laying hens. Built on a foundation of hemp seed meal, our carefully balanced formula excludes common high-lectin ingredients, including corn, soybeans, and peas.

what you feed your hens matters

Conventional laying-hen rations often contain high-lectin ingredients. Our low-lectin ration is designed to provide the protein and energy hens need for health and consistent egg production, with the goal of producing low-lectin eggs.

According to the National Hemp Association, hemp seed meal contains approximately 32% crude protein, up to 11% fat, and 30%–40% fiber. Its fiber supports digestive health in laying hens, while its beneficial fatty acids may enhance egg quality. Hemp seed meal is also a nutrient-rich byproduct of cold-pressed hemp grain.

Ingredients Grown with Soil Health in Mind
Our ingredients come from farmers who are transitioning their fields to USDA-certified organic production. Under the USDA National Organic Program, land must be managed without prohibited synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for three crop years before it can be certified. As a result, our ingredients are grown without prohibited pesticides or petroleum-based fertilizers.

We also exclude GMO seed and emphasize nutrient cycling, including the use of animal-derived materials to return nutrients to the soil. Our approach reflects a simple belief: healthy soil produces healthy food and supports healthier outcomes for the people who eat it.

Locally Sourced Feed
Lowlectin.feed carefully selects and processes locally produced ingredients that are transitioning to organic production. Instead of conventional corn- and soybean-based rations, we use hemp seed meal and low-lectin, culturally significant grains such as millet and sorghum.

Hemp Seed Meal as an Alternative Protein
We use non-GMO hemp seed meal instead of soybean, canola, and pea proteins. At 30%–32% crude protein, hemp seed meal provides a strong nutritional foundation and may substantially increase omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in eggs.

Local Ingredients and Milling
We source our primary feed ingredients in central Minnesota and process them at a local specialty feed mill. This short supply chain allows us to adjust ingredients as needed while supporting regional producers.

The mill has been in business for nearly 40 years. It understands the value of non-GMO feed ingredients and shares a principle central to our work: what we feed our animals matters.

The facility is inspected by the FDA and DOT and is licensed by the State of Minnesota to purchase and store bulk commodities.

transparent, sustainable pricing

Low-lectin Feed is a small startup without a large corporate backer. To remain sustainable and continue serving customers, we use a transparent cost-plus pricing model that:

Tracks local market prices for ingredients.

Covers the costs of producing high-value, hemp-based, low-lectin feed.

Creates opportunities for bulk purchasing and greater price stability as our customer base grows.

Supports a long-term partnership with customers who want to produce healthier, more nutritious eggs.

Through transparent pricing and a high-quality product, we aim to build lasting partnerships with customers who care about their hens and the eggs they produce. We created this feed to serve both our customers and their birds.
